Dojo Etiquette...

The martial arts begin with courtesy and end with courtesy, not in form alone, but in heart and mind as well.

  • When entering the mat, remove your shoes and bow to the front of the dojo.
  • If you arrive after practice has begun, wait for the instructor's approval before joining in.
  • Safety is everyone's concern. Be concerned for the safety of others on the mat, your partner, and yourself.
  • Practice in a spirit of courtesy and cooperation, so that everyone will enjoy the practice.
  • Please sign the attendance book every time you practice, and assist with set-up and clean-up whenever possible.
  • Remember that no one learns Aikido without working with others. In other words, your progress results from effort by you, by the other Aikido students, and by the instructors. With this in mind, spare no effort in assisting the progress of other students, as well as your own.
  • Those who plan to continue to practice Aikido beyond the first three months may wish to obtain a gi or practice uniform. We recommend a judo gi, which can be purchased through a martial arts supply store, or through the dojo. We can also obtain Aikido books, practice weapons (wooden sword, staff and knife), and other equipment at a discount, if there is enough interest.
  • We try to hold classes every week, but sometimes life gets in the way. We will inform students about changes in advance if at all possible.

About Us...

We have been in Albuquerque for six years now teaching adults the beautiful Japanese defensive martial art of Aikido. Aikido is a defensive and non-competitive Japanese martial art that utilizes holds, throws, and joint locks to redirect attacks without the use of great physical strength. The outcome: grace, confidence, self-control, stress reduction, stamina, and mental/spiritual growth.

In a relaxed yet structured atmosphere, you will learn to control, contain, redirect, and deflect any attack using seemingly simple techniques that anyone, regardless of age or physical condition, can learn. The instruction is challenging, dynamic, fun, and filled with personal attention. You are welcome to come and observe any of our classes and recommend you do so before signing up.
